How the Douglas API works

Douglas is a normal ReefAPI surface — the same four rules that hold for every other engine on the key.

01
Authenticate
x-api-key header

No OAuth app, no request signing, no per-site account. One key covers all 252 engines.

02
Call
POST /douglas/v1/…

Every route is a POST with a JSON body. Parameters are validated against the published schema before anything is charged.

03
Pay
1 credit per call

Credits, not seats. Failed and blocked calls are never charged, and cache hits cost nothing.

04
Read
{ ok, data, meta, error }

One envelope everywhere. meta carries latency_ms, record_count and the endpoint that answered.

Search a storefront, then open the product in full

A search row is one variant with its price and base price. product/detail opens the full record — EAN, ingredients, specs and every size/shade variant with its own price.

01search
POST/douglas/v1/search
{"country": "at", "query": "dior sauvage", "sort": "price_asc"}

48 rows in price order, each with price, was_price, the EU 30-day lowest price and the price per 100 ml. Take results[].product_code.

02detail
POST/douglas/v1/product/detail
{"country": "at", "product_id": "<results[0].product_code>"}

EAN, ingredients, specs, breadcrumb and every size variant with its own price and price-per-unit.

03suggest
POST/douglas/v1/suggest
{"country": "at", "query": "chanel"}

Autocomplete product + keyword suggestions to power a search box or resolve a brand.

One flat credit each, with the five price fields kept apart and the per-unit price separate from the pack price.

Five different prices can sit on one product, and the price you see already prices the unit

A Douglas product commonly publishes several numbers: the price a logged-out visitor pays, a struck was-price, the EU-mandated lowest price of the last 30 days, an in-store price, and a conditional coupon/deal price. The API keeps every one in its own field so a discount is never invented and the coupon price is never mistaken for the shelf price. It also returns the price per 100 ml / per litre separately from the pack price, and each size variant with its own price.

Product (country)pricewas_pricelowest_price_30dprice per unit
Prada Paradoxe 90 ml (AT)117.99187.00null131.10 €/100 ml
Dior perfume (HU, DEAL25)61,190 Ft76,990 Ft76,990 Ftcoupon: 57,742 Ft
Prada Sweet Chemistry (CH)82.00nullnullstore price 101.90 CHF
Valentino Uomo (LT)129.00169.00130.00

lowest_price_30d is the EU-Omnibus figure and is separate from was_price (both can be present). store_price is the in-store price, usually higher than online. A coupon/deal price is returned under coupon{code, price, ends_at}, never as price. The Douglas Beauty-Card member price only exists for a logged-in session, so it is not published and member_price is null.

Which countries, which of the five prices, and what only the detail carries

13 storefronts on one platform. Measured on 2026-09-15 across 20+ searches, 11 products in 4 categories, and every error case. Some of these lines go against us.

Thirteen countries, each in its own currency

DE, AT, CH, NL, BE, PL, IT, ES, CZ, SK, HU, RO, LT — one country parameter, and currency + language follow it (EUR, CHF, PLN, CZK, HUF, RON). Switzerland and Belgium also take a language. Douglas markets on a different platform (Bulgaria, Croatia, Slovenia, Portugal, the Baltics site, France's Nocibé) return a clear MARKET_UNAVAILABLE rather than a wrong answer.

Five prices, each in its own field

price is the logged-out price; was_price the struck former price with discount_percent; lowest_price_30d the EU-Omnibus 30-day lowest (separate from was_price, present on some stores); store_price the in-store price (Switzerland); coupon a conditional deal-code price with its end date. The Beauty-Card member price is logged-in-only, so member_price is always null — never guessed.

The per-unit price is separate from the pack price

base_price is the price per 100 ml / per litre / per 100 g, and each size variant carries its own base price, so a 30 ml and a 100 ml of the same fragrance are never conflated.

No-result is empty, a typo is corrected, a redirect keeps its rows

A search with no matches returns an empty list from the site's own signal — no padding to filter. A typo is auto-corrected and reported as corrected_from; a keyword that resolves to a category or brand still returns its real products with the redirect reported as redirect_to.

Sponsored tiles are not in the results; marketplace sellers are labelled

Douglas serves sponsored tiles client-side, so the result array is already organic and count is the organic count. When a marketplace partner sells a product, seller.marketplace is true with the shop name (or 'Partner'); a first-party product reports 'Douglas'.

Against us: EAN, ingredients and specs are only on the detail

Search rows carry the price, brand, rating and base price but not the EAN or ingredients. product/detail adds the EAN, the ingredient list, the application text, the specification table, the breadcrumb and every variant with its own price.

Against us: on Germany, the full record is sometimes served in listing mode

For the German storefront, when the full product record is temporarily unavailable, product/detail returns a listing-mode record (price, base price, variants, rating, images) with ean/ingredients/specs null and partial set to true. It never claims a value it did not read. The other twelve countries return the full record.

What people build with Douglas

The jobs this data is most often used for.

3

endpoints

1

credit per call

01

Beauty price-monitoring teams track a product's price, its was-price, the EU 30-day lowest price and the price per 100 ml across up to 13 countries from one API.

02

Brands watch where their SKUs are listed, at what price and with which coupon/deal, and whether a marketplace partner is undercutting Douglas's own price.

03

Catalog teams pull the EAN, ingredients, grouped specs and every size/shade variant to match products by GTIN.

04

Repricing and compliance tools read the EU-Omnibus 30-day lowest price and the coupon price separately so the margin maths and the discount claim both use the right number.

What Douglas data costs

The cheapest call here is 1 credit, so $15/mo (Pro) buys 10,000 of them — $1.50 per 1,000 credits. Credits roll over and never expire, and failed or blocked calls are not charged.

The questions people actually ask before wiring up Douglas.

Get a free key →
Which countries does it cover, and what currency comes back?

Thirteen storefronts on one platform: Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, Italy, Spain, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Lithuania. Pass country; currency and language follow it (EUR, CHF for Switzerland, PLN for Poland, CZK for Czechia, HUF for Hungary, RON for Romania). Switzerland and Belgium also take a language parameter (de/fr/it, nl/fr). Douglas storefronts that run on a different platform (Bulgaria, Croatia, Slovenia, Portugal, the Baltics site, France's Nocibé) are not covered and return a clear MARKET_UNAVAILABLE.

What price does a row return, and what are all the other price fields?

price is what a logged-out shopper pays. was_price is the struck former price with discount_percent. lowest_price_30d is the EU-Omnibus lowest price of the previous 30 days, returned only when the store shows it and separate from was_price. store_price is the in-store price (Switzerland). coupon carries a conditional deal-code price with its end date. base_price is the price per 100 ml / per litre / per 100 g, separate from the pack price. member_price (Beauty-Card) is logged-in-only and is always null. Every figure is the store's own currency, and formatted strings are never used — only the numbers.

How do variants (sizes and shades) work?

product/detail returns every variant under variants[], each with its own product_code, name (the size or shade), price, was_price, price-per-unit and availability, because a 30 ml and a 100 ml of the same fragrance have different prices and different per-ml costs. variant_display_type says whether the axis is SIZE or COLOR. A search row is one variant; pass its product_code (or a base code) to product/detail to open the full set.

Where do I get the EAN, ingredients and specifications?

From product/detail. Search rows carry the price, brand, rating and base price but not the EAN or ingredients; the product record adds the EAN, the ingredient list, the application text, the bullet points, the grouped specification table and the category breadcrumb. (On the German storefront, when the full record is temporarily unavailable, product/detail returns a listing-mode record with the price, base price, variants and rating but ean/ingredients/specs null and partial set to true — it never claims a value it did not read.)

What happens on a no-result search, a typo, or a keyword that is really a category?

A search with no matches returns an empty result list — Douglas answers with its own empty signal, so there is no page of unrelated padding to filter. A typo is auto-corrected by the site and reported as corrected_from (or did_you_mean for a soft suggestion), with the real results kept. A keyword that resolves to a category or brand page (for example a brand name) still returns its actual products, and the redirect is reported as redirect_to rather than dropping the rows.

Are sponsored rows or marketplace sellers mixed in?

Douglas serves its sponsored tiles on the client side, so they are not in the API's result array — count is the organic product count with no filtering needed. Douglas also runs a marketplace: when a partner sells a product, seller.marketplace is true and seller.name is the shop (or 'Partner' when the store hides it); a first-party product reports seller 'Douglas'.

Can I browse a category or use autocomplete?

Yes. Pass category (a Douglas category code, from a search response's facets) to search with or without a keyword to browse that category with the same sorts and filters. suggest returns the autocomplete: product suggestions (code, variant name, product name, brand, url, image) plus the ranked keyword and brand suggestions.

What is the Douglas API?

Douglas API is a ReefAPI endpoint group for europe's largest beauty retailer across 13 countries: prices, sizes, price-per-100 ml, ean, ingredients and ratings as json. It returns live JSON through POST requests under /douglas/v1.

Is the Douglas API free to try?

Yes. ReefAPI starts with 1,000 free credits, no card required. Douglas calls use the same shared credit balance as every other ReefAPI engine.

Do I need a Douglas login or account?

No login to Douglas is needed for the API response. You call ReefAPI with your x-api-key header, and the playground can run live examples before you create a production key.

How fresh is the Douglas data?

The page example is captured from a live search call, and production requests fetch live data through ReefAPI rather than a static sample.

How many credits does the Douglas API use?

Douglas actions currently cost 1 credit per successful call. Failed or blocked calls are free, and all APIs draw from one credit pool.

Can I call Douglas from an AI assistant or MCP client?

Yes. Connect ReefAPI once through MCP and your assistant can call douglas actions with the same key, credit pool and JSON envelope used by normal REST requests.

Is the Douglas API a Douglas scraper?

It is the managed alternative to a DIY Douglas scraper. Instead of building and maintaining your own scraper — proxies, headless browsers, captcha and constant breakage — you call one ReefAPI endpoint and get the same europe's largest beauty retailer across 13 countries: prices, sizes, price-per-100 ml, ean, ingredients and ratings as json back as clean JSON.

The call above is the real endpoint, not a recording. A free key gives you 1,000 credits, the other 251 APIs, and the same envelope everywhere.

Endpoints, parameters and credit costs on this page are read from the live catalog and cannot drift from what the API accepts. Field notes were captured on 2026-09-15.
